Research Description

Investigating the implementation and deployment readiness of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) into security credential management systems (SCMS) within distributed transportation systems.

What we hope to learn: What is the impact of PQC on privacy and authentication design of IEEE 1609 based SCMS?

Are there alternative privacy and authentication models that are immune to identified PQC challenges to IEEE 1609 based SCMS

Additional Supporting Information

Benefits: Determine now if Q-Day represents a deployment risk to CAV based on SCMS.

Start to identify mitigation or alternative while the deployment is still early to avoid the problems that come with changes at scale.

Research should include verification on current trust and privacy goals and investigate if alternatives exist for scalable security models can meet or exceed the updated trust and privacy goals.
